FileMenu Tools - customize the system context menu
The Windows context menu is a powerful feature if used efficiently. Programs like FileMenu Tools allow a computer user to optimize the context menu and add a series of new features to it. These features can greatly increase the way a user can handle files and folders operations. This is a Windows application that has no trouble running on Windows 7 and also on older versions of the operating system, like XP or Windows 2000. It's not difficult to install, as a couple of clicks will do the trick.
FileMenu Tools is not difficult to use either, as it includes some sample items that can be used together with any file or folder. These items were included in the program to allow the user to see what it can do and what features it includes. These items range from opening a file with Notepad to splitting a file into several parts, for fitting it on multiple discs in case the file is large.
One can easily add new items to the context menu by using the well organized options, in the left part of the interface. Besides that, the included items can be ordered and positioned exactly how the user wants and even separators can be added between two items, for being easier to delimiter them.
Besides adding a lot of items to the context menu, FileMenu Tools can also customize the Send To menu and can add various folders to it. Thus, files and folders will be much easier to copy or move to often used locations. FileMenu Tools does not only work with the Windows context menu, as it can also manipulate the right menu for a wide range of applications.
The list of settings contained by the program, including all the menu items created, can be exported to a file, for importing it later on, in case the software has to be reinstalled.
Pros:
It can completely customize the Windows context menu, by adding or removing a wide variety of items. Besides that, it comes with some predefined items already added to the context menu. Furthermore, it can control the right click menus of 3rd party applications. More to say, all the program's settings and menus can be saved as a file, to be reused later on.
Cons:
It may take some time until a beginner gets fully used to the interface and the program's features.
